The
Chianti countryside takes you back to the ancient times of feudal wars and
bloody battles between Florence and Siena. Aligned with one of the two
powers the surrounding castles and fortified towns were the sites of on
going struggles to dominate the valley.
Although
times have change some feelings die hard and we can still feel today the old
alliances. For example the first stop of this tour, Monteriggioni, an
ancient stronghold for the republic of Siena.
Completely
surrounded by high stone walls and watchtowers, today Monteriggioni is an
enchanting village and a perfect stop for a peaceful stroll. Afterwards head
into the hills to visit the imposing Meleto Castle.
Like in a
fairytale,
Meleto
Castle
stands out in the stunning
Chianti landscape at the end of a cypress and juniper lined avenue, in the
middle of sun-kissed fields and vineyards.
For lunch
you will be treated to authentic local cuisine at a charming restaurant
before heading to Brolio Castle.
The soaring
red brick towers and surrounding gardens invite you to give a back seat to
modern worries. One of the most beautiful castles in Chianti also offers
wine tasting of it’s award winning Chianti and other wines. As you head back
to the real world you will be sure to take with you memories of another time
that are engraved into the heart of the Tuscan landscape.
