Take a day to explore the
culinary treasures, fantastic wine and medieval atmosphere of Siena. We will
pick you up at your hotel in Florence and take you through the fabulous
Chianti countryside to Siena.
You will begin your day with
a hands on cooking class that features traditional Tuscan fare, includes
wine and the fabulous lunch that you created. You will learn how to make
fresh homemade ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese or gnocchi
with mushrooms sauce, a typical Tuscan meat dish (beef or pork) and for
dessert either biscotti known locally as cantucci or an international cake
as tiramisù.
Before to start to taste
your creations, you will have an introduction about olive oil and wine and
how it’s important the combination between wine and food. After lunch you
can stroll the ancient streets of this mysterious town. Once and arch rival
of Florence, Siena lost it’s power in the 14th century. Since
then the architecture has changed very little and the people keep the
ancient traditions of their ancestors alive.
The Palio horse race, run
twice a year is an amazing spectacle of religion, superstition and ancient
beliefs. It takes place in the one of a kind, shell shaped, “Piazza del
Campo”. And don’t miss the local cathedral, a truly stunning example of a
gothic Duomo. After you have explored this enchanting town you will say
goodbye to Siena and head back to Florence where your driver will drop you
off at your hotel.
