When most
people think of Tuscany they imagine splendid cities, divine food and of
course excellent wine. Just south of Siena lies one of the most famous wine
production areas in all of Italy.
This is
where the famous Vino Nobile (noble wine) of Montepulciano is brought to
life. This antique wine which can trace it’s roots to the 1200’s is reason
alone to visit Tuscany. It was given the title Nobile in the 1700’s due to
the fact that the vine owners made a distinction between premium grapes and
the crop as a whole. This high quality wine is produced in very small
quantities and it’s rich flavor and beauty are a testimony to the history,
passion and dedication of this small community.
The Vino
Nobile can only be produced within the confines of Montepulciano’s
territory. The actual village of Montepulciano has remained as it was 500
years ago with it’s splendid buildings, winding streets and medieval
atmosphere.
The history
of Montepulciano has always been tied to it’s fine wine and you will
experience this first hand in this unique town where you will find centuries
old cellars that are true works of art.
On this
tour we will help you discover the rich tastes, smells and sensations that
invade Tuscany and make it one of a kind. You will not only taste this
magnificent wine but also other local products unique to this area and enjoy
a mouth watering Tuscan lunch.
No visit to
this area is complete without a stop in the “Jewel of the Renaissance”. When
Pope Pio II decided to transform his native town of Corsignano into a
marvellous modern Renaissance town he renamed it Pienza.
It’s
beautiful architecture is unmatched and don’t miss the many shops lining the
main street with their famous Pecorino di Pienza (sheep milk cheese). Fresh
or aged this cheese is a Tuscan delicacy that wont soon be forgotten. This
day in the southern Tuscan region of Montepulciano is sure to delight you
with it’s history, beauty, and of course, fine wine!
