After your lesson you will head to San Gimignano, the Manhattan of Tuscany, with her soaring towers that are a testimony to her glorious and fascinating past that you can still discover today. Here it will be possible to taste the famous Vernaccia, a fine white wine produced in this area. DAY 5 MONTALCINO - BAGNO VIGNONI - MONTE OLIVETO ABBEY

This day is dedicated to the discovery of the southern region of the province of Siena, it’s beauty and delicacies.

First, Montalcino and her fabulous wine “Brunello”. Visit local cellars for wine tasting and for lunch you will be welcomed to the majestic fortress overlooking the surrounding country side where you will taste the best the area has to offer.

After lunch you will head to Bagno Vignoni, an ancient village with  thermal hot springs used by the Etruscans and Romans. The water that runs from the main pool (in the middle of the village) has a constant temperature year round and when the winter months are chilly a steamy mist is produced that offers a spectacular sight especially late in the evening.

On the way back to Siena you will make a small detour that takes you through the Val d’Asso and up to the Monte Oliveto Maggiore abbey. This abbey is a treasure trove of precious artwork surrounded by silent forests and peaceful hills.

You will have dinner on your own after you arrive in Siena.

You will be served a delicious lunch at a local enoteca in Cortona and in Montepulciano visit an extraordinary underground cellar that hosts and Etruscan tomb for wine tasting. After this you will visit the Renaissance village of Pienza who owes it’s name to Pope Pius II.

Today Pienza’s fame arises not only from the fact that during the Renaissance it was known as the “Ideal City” or the “City of Dreams”, but also for it’s production of Pecorino cheese (sheep’s milk cheese).

It can have a slightly spicy taste and is perfect accompanied by pears, honey or jam. Back in Siena you will have time to relax before your farewell dinner in a lovely restaurant close to your hotel.
